Zakharchenko Assassination Presents A New Reality In The Donbass

The assassination of Zakharchenko creates a new reality in the Donbass

Yesterday in Donetsk, the head of the People’s Democratic Republic Alexander Zakharchenko perished as a result of the terrorist attack. The bomb explosion occurred in one of the restaurants in the city, where at that time the head of the People’s Republic was with a number of ministers and close associates.

The murder of Zakharchenko is an international crime

The explosion took place in the SEPAR restaurant, where an explosive device with the equivalent of 800 grams of TNT was fixed in a lamp. Together with Zakharchenko 11 more people were injured, including the Deputy Chairman of the Government of the People’s Republic of Donetsk, and besides the leader of the People’s Republic, another person was killed, who is not yet named.

In the DPR, a three-day mourning has been declared, and Dmitri Trapeznikov became the acting president. He previously served as deputy chairman of the government of the Donetsk People’s Republic. This happened in accordance with Article 62 of the DPR Constitution.

Yesterday, Russian President Vladimir Putin said that the murder of Zakharchenko is a terrorist act and an international crime, and also confirmed that Russia will not leave the people of Donbass in trouble. Today, Russian presidential press secretary Dmitry Peskov noted that this crime is a provocation and will lead to increased tension in the Donbass.

In addition, Peskov expressed the thesis that this provocation does not contribute to the creation of conditions, at least for the sake of reaching prospects for the implementation of the Minsk agreements, and, therefore, it further and further puts the general state of affairs in the Donbass at a dead end.

Ukraine’s actions create a new reality

The editor-in-chief of the magazine National Defense, Igor Korochenko, in his conversation with the FBA “Economics Today” noted that this event once again shows the fact that the Donetsk People’s Republic and the Lugansk People’s Republic must take a course towards full-fledged state building.

“I believe that these territories will never again be part of Ukraine, they are lost for Kiev, and the whole question is what will happen next. If Ukraine launches a large-scale military operation against the Donbass, or if Ukraine goes on to aggression against Russia — and today we can not rule out such a scenario, given the latest statements and sentiments in Kiev — then a fundamentally new reality will arise in this issue,” states Korotchenko.

As the expert notes, this reality will be that Ukraine’s border will get to the Dnieper – everything west will remain Ukraine, and everything that is east, Novorossia or something else, depending on the development of the overall situation.

“My personal position is that with regard to Ukraine we must behave harshly to the max, as this is a terrorist state led by illegitimate president Petro Poroshenko,” concludes Korotchenko.

Ukraine’s actions nullify the entire negotiating process

According to Igor Yurievich, we should behave in exactly the same way as the United States is conducting its policy today towards those countries, which they consider their adversaries, with all the ensuing consequences.

“We must behave with Ukraine as hard as possible and do not need to be ashamed of anything. We must determine the rules of the game, as well as the final result of all such conflict situations,” Korochenko sums up.
